In October 2016,  when I arrived to the Qufu Shaolin Kung Fu school, the weather was still nice. There were many sunny days. We could still train with light clothes and chill out outside after the training or during the weekends.

In November gradually it got cooler. In December I went with Dani to buy winter clothes – warm jacket and underpants for training. I already had to wear two layers of clothes.

Till Dani left, which was in the second week of December, there were still some warm days. After that time I can only remember freezing in my room, freezing during the training, freezing, freezing, freezing …

The weather probably didn’t go much below 0°, but training outside and having the room in the corner of the building with the heating being on only at night, chilled my bones.

I remember, 26th of December, I was sitting in my room wearing two layers of pants and two sweaters. I was covered with two blankets. I made a photo of my friend, who was dressed similarly.

We had the coldest room in the whole school. After the classes, our only wish was to rest in a warm space. Instead, we had to take shower, meaning undress in the freezing bathroom.

After, we hide ourselves under many layers of clothes and blankets so we could barely move. I layed in bed waiting for my body to warm up. When it did, I usually fall asleep. When the alarm rang in the morning, I didn’t want to move from bed – it was just too cold.

After few days since I made this photo I moved to the warmer room, situated on the first floor between Shiushiu (the school owners brother) and Masters’ room.

I could breathe again !!!

I could undress normally, without freezing to bones. I could stay in one sweater and it was fine. Going out from the bed in the morning wasn’t a big deal anymore. Changing room made me realise how energy consuming was living in the room before. How much did it make impossible for my body to fully rest.

January and February were still very cold months. But I was able to rebuild my strength better. It started to be warmer in March, when Dani come back. I was happy with every spring wind coming to the school.
